Handwritten across the bottom:
“The Irish Picnic Wildwood Park Seattle WA Aug 17 1919”
while across the front of the photo is written:
“Attorney M. J. Costello Reading Irish Republican Declaration of Independence.”.
The park was located directly east of Seattle across Lake Washington, and
Seattleites would have had to take a ferry across the lake from Leschi Park.
The UW Library has other photos taken at Wildwood Park in the early 1900s,
one showing the ferry LESCHI arriving at the parks' ferry landing in 1915,
and another of a church picnic held there in 1900.
A small part of the original Wildwood Park still remains in present-day Bellevue
near Main St and Lk Washington Blvd on Meydenbauer Bay. Much of the original park
is now the location of the Meydenbauer Yacht Club.
