SEATTLE MAYOR GREG NICKELS'
2007 TRIP TO TIPPERARY, IRELAND

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels' great-great-grandparents left Co. Tipperary, Ireland in 1852 and settled in Illinois where Mayor Nickels was born in 1955. On a September 2007 trip to Seattle's Sister City of Galway, Ireland, Mayor Nickels also visited Gortnahoe and Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Following are photos taken during the visit.

In Gortnahoe, Co. Tipperary, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels was welcomed by a group of parishioners led by a distant relative of his, Anna Hayden, who, like the Mayor, is a descendant of the Carneys of Gortnahoe. The Mayor's great-great-grandparents lived in Gortnahoe until 1852 when they emigrated to the US.
