2008 IRISH DAY AT THE RACES
Sunday June 22 at Emerald Downs in
Auburn

Murdock MacPherson, Director of Irish Day at the Races, waiting to present the Waterford Crystal Trophy to winning owner of the $50,000 Irish Day Handicap.
As usual, the Irish turned
out in droves for the horse-racing at the Emerald
Downs racetrack in Auburn.
The huge crowd was there for Irish Day at the
Races. Irish Heritage Club members got free admission
and about $1.5 million was wagered. Irish day is organized
by Murdock MacPherson who arranges for special Irish
food and drink menus, Irish music, bagpipers,
prizes for wearing green, etc. All the major
Irish organizations in the Seattle area are represented
on a glorious sunshiny day. Thanks to all who
participated and special thanks to Murdock for
all his hard work. Here are pictures from previous
Irish Days:

BLOOMSDAY
CELEBRATION
Annually
on Bloomsday, June 16, we celebrate the James
Joyce classic, ULYSSES, in the UW's Brechemin Auditorium
in a performance directed by Dr. Kieran O'Malley.
The Wild Geese Players perform various Chapters
from Ulysses and we have an enjoyable and informative
event. Among the usual performers is Congressman
Jim McDermott as Bloom himself. It is a very
enjoyable evening of 'Dublin in the Rare Ould times!
Following are some pictures from past performances
and of a very enjoyable Irish Coffee Intermission!

THE MASS IN GAELIC
Each year, a large crowd attends the annual
Mass of
Remembrance in
the Gaelic language, to be celebrated
in 2005 at St. Patrick's Church, Seattle, on Friday,
November 4, at 7:30 PM. Concelebrating priests will
include Fr. John Madigan and Fr. Hugh
Duffy, SJ.
People in
Seattle's Irish community who passed away
in the past
year are especially remembered with their
names being read out during the Mass and the names
are also added to the Irish Community Memorial
Book.
Sincere thanks to all who help out,
especially the musicians, choir and readers.
Following the Mass, there is a social get together
in the
Parish Hall for coffee and cookies, usually
organized
by Jim and Betty Walsh and friends.
For more information, email the
Irish Heritage Club Secretary.

CONCERTS
/ MOVIES, ETC.
We also
periodically organize a showing of Irish films or
documentaries, including a pre-view showing of Out of Ireland: The Story of Irish Emigration
to America, and of Hard
Road to Klondike about an Irish Emigrant's
trip to America in 1880 and mining for gold in Alaska.
The club has also sponsored a Concert by Irish Tenor
John McDermott at the University of Washington.
The Irish Tenor delighted the crowd with some
lovely Irish and Scottish airs and he entertained
them with his wit as well as his voice.
